About Us
The Ark is a Christian Ministry founded by Vivian A Enoh, conceived to create awareness on the family lifestyle model for Orphan Care that connects our faith in Christ and the needs of the world. The first of its kind in our local community, the only local foundation with a shelter to support families with children below 6 who are disadvantaged or vulnerable. Legally incorporated in Cameroon as ‘the Ark- Mama Susan Mbi Enoh foundation’, on the 15th of October 2021 with registered number 783/G.37/C84/Vol 1/SAAJP and headquarters in Limbe 11 Sub Division, Fako Division – an apolitical, non-denominational and non-profit organisation. The Ark (a new home) was launched on the 16th of July 2022.
- Our Motto: ‘to work together with the community for the community in clear conscience and love’.
OUR VISION
1.Our values
Our values are to show kindness, mercy and compassion, to bring hope, justice and peace, and to stay committed, transparent and accountable. We do not judge. We make the positives out of the negatives. Whatever the story may be about the mother and baby, we bring out the positives from the situation.
Children need to be respected, need to feel safe, need to feel valued and experience kindness to make a better and peaceful world.
The Ark accepts children who can be supported within their own family care setting, promoting family care
3. ‘Tracing and re-unification’ with small packages of support.
We provide the mother and her baby (or babies) with the necessary support that we can give, a possible package of care that will enable her to carry on with an independent sustainable living.
4. Providing a shelter to families with children below 6
who are vulnerable or helping with other family-based alternatives and what happens next with the child
OUR MISSION
Our vision and mission, purpose and values have their origin in the stories behind the three important Arks in the Bible.
Noak’s Ark: The Ark, like Noah’s Ark is a place of shelter when there is storm outside. God spared Noah and his family until the dove brought an olive branch to show that the storm was over. No matter how bad a situation is, God protects.
The Ark of Bulrushes: Inspired by the story of a mother who placed her son Moses in a basket in the Nile River which was found by Pharaoh’s daughter who took pity and rescued him, Vivian called her new home The Ark. The story embodied all that her Ark would stand for. In the story, Moses was united with his mother (a family re-unification) enabling him to grow up nurtured by her love and example, keeping track of Moses’ developments (cognitive, social and emotional developments) as Moses remained in the arms of his mother through the most formative time of his early life. This also helps us to pursue the purpose God has for each one of us in the life of a child.
The Ark of the Covenant: We see a God that always provide (Manna from Heaven) through Divine providence. We are His hands and through each and every one of us, God can reach others. There is peace and happiness when we see how God blesses others through our acts of giving.

WHAT WE DO IN THE ARK
- The concept of the Ark is unique in reaching out to the wider community providing help in the first place to a family in need before a child could be abandoned (children who risk being abandoned because of lack of means to sustain life by their families).

About the Founder
Vivian A Enoh
As a young child I was always saving for young children who are disadvantaged, and at the end of every year I made donations to various charities irrespective of ‘how little or how much’. Apart from money, when I was growing up mama also taught us how to give up ‘time’ for God’s services, and time for others. I followed mama to the Legion of Mary prayer group as a child, and I later joined the SVP (St Vincent de Paul) at the Limbe Holy Family Parish - giving practical support to individuals and families in need, and caring for people who did not have anyone to care for them. In 1994 as an active member, one of my responsibilities was to do hospital visits to those who did not have anyone to visit them and to try and trace any of their family or extended family members who could be involved in their care. From 1998 it became obvious that I derived a huge sense of fulfilment and became not only a sponsor to a young girl into secondary school but also provided a three-bedroom self-contained house as a temporal accommodation for the people who were homeless in Limbe (1998-2001) – an arrangement that I made with the local and national president of St Vincent de Paul Society at the time (Pa Simon Dikuba, now of late) and with the help of Mama. Mama passed away in November 2015 and in November 2016 we celebrated mama’s first anniversary. It was during this time that it came to my mind that I should start a project for children who are disadvantaged, especially for orphans. I used most of my salary to construct (from sand to roof) and to furnish the four-bedroom en-suite bungalow single-handedly and supplied water (borehole) and electricity and called it ‘the Ark’ I have drawn ideas from my own life experiences, knowledge and skills to establish how the Ark will work. Apart from my experience in SVP and other voluntary organisations, I have also been a Mental Health Practitioner in the UK since 1999 and I understand the long-term effects of mental illness especially on children. Children who are living under certain conditions may continue to experience problems that may interfere with their healthy development causing problems that can continue to adulthood if not prevented, or diagnosed and treated. After my graduation from Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, Essex (UK) as a registered Nurse (RN Dip HE) in Mental Health, I proceeded to York University (UK) where I graduated with a Bsc (Hons) in Health and Social Care, and I later achieved a Master’s degree (MSc) from the University of Bradford (UK). I was also very pleased to have been shortlisted for a PhD Scholarship Award with Alzheimer Scotland Research Centre, Scotland, after creating a project using some ‘novel ideas’ on Social Role Valorisation on how to add value to a person’s life and mental well-being. I have worked in various roles – as a Hospital Acute in-patient Ward Manager in the National Health Service UK (NHS 2017), as a Hospital Acute in-patient Unit Charge Nurse (Deputy Manager) Priory Hospital Springfield (2013), a Senior Nurse and Mentor, Ward Nurse, Student Nurse and Healthcare assistant (1999).
IN MEMORY OF MAMA SUSAN MBI ENOH
UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF OUR BLESSED MOTHER, OUR LADY OF MT CARMEL
That the Foundation was incorporated on the 15th of Oct (feast day of St Teresa of Avila) and the Ark was launched on the 16th of July (feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel) was important to Vivian because this Carmelite connection fulfilled her long-held dream of becoming part of the Carmelite family. On the 9th April 2022 she was received as a member of the Carmelite Third Order, and she sees her work with the Ark, with the SVP and with the homeless as an outworking of her vocation as a Carmelite ‘in the world’; her life of prayer and self-giving is an expression of her love for Jesus Christ whom she meets in her prayer and in the children, the homeless, the needy who need her help.

Our Stories
To give you some idea of the work we do at the Ark, we want to share two stories from among those whom we are already helping:
Angelina’s Story (not her real name)
Angelina became vulnerable when her mother abandoned her when she was only 18 months old. When her father found it difficult to look after her, neighbours stepped in to help and she was eventually taken in by one of the neighbours. When she was just over 5 years old, through the Ark’s intervention – by ‘identifying and tracing’ family members – the child’s mother and father have been found. The Ark gave the family some financial support by paying for the child’s registration and school fees for the first academic year to enable her go to school. Angelina has now started school and her father agreed to help with his child’s educational needs. Through the Ark’s intervention, Angelina’s parents have come forward and are ready to be involved in her development.
Beauty’s story (not her real name)
Beauty was a six-year-old who, with her mother and her two-year old sibling, lived in a single room shared with other families. Her mother had no source of income and Beauty had been forced to leave school because her mother was unable to pay the school fees. The Ark registered Beauty in school, paying the school fees, provided her with her school uniform and all she needed. The family was provided with new accommodation and enough capital to start a small-scale fish business giving the mother the dignity of being able to provide for her family, and the children stay connected to the family.
